Sandy’s grew out of the breakup of The Botticellis, Alexi Glickman’s acclaimed Bay Area band. After that band split, members went separate ways – Glickman drummed for Little Wings, while Zack Ehrlich and Ryan Browne helped form Sonny and the Sunsets – and Sandy’s began as Glickman’s low-key recording and live project, often performed as a duo or trio with rotating local musicians.

The band solidified with the addition of Botticellis multi-instrumentalist Burton Li, drummer Jeremy Black (ex-Apollo Sunshine), and bassist Nick Aives (Range of Light Wilderness). Their debut LP, Fourth Dementia (2014), came out via Thomas Campbell’s Um Yeah Arts, followed by 2016’s Prom EP, which locked in their signature sound – shimmering open-tuned guitar, surf textures, and expansive songwriting. The Chime EP brought guitarist/painter Dave Muller into the fold and produced their standout song “I & I,” while the follow-up LP Magic Mind revisited their anthemic debut sound with a broader hi-fi/lo-fi range, released through mix engineer David Glasebrook’s label Royal Oakie.
